Oil Pastel Tutorial by BandGeek-16 Oil Pastel Tutorial by BandGeek-16
Hi! I moved to a new account... come see!
[link]

Oil Pastels are cool! Once I tried them, they became my favorite!... So I made this tutorial, because they're aren't many oil pastel tutorials, and to share what I've learned. I'm no expert or anything, but here are some tips I've found out:

* Smooth paper, like Oaktag, are good to use for oil pastels. Paper with grain hurts to rub in, and leaves white dots if you don't rub it in well enough.

* Make your sketch simple... The pencil lines will rub in and smear when blending, so don't try to draw little details... they will just cause an ugly gray pencil blob on the paper.

* If you mess up, try to scrape the pastel off with your fingernail... Or, if it was a light color, just blend it in.

Thanks for reading! Tell me what you think!

And don't forget to join your school's marching band!

Thanks for making this tutorial available. I just started playing with oil pastels. Did you clean your stick after each stroke as to not get a muddy colors?

My school gave us pastels, and I tried it once thinking it was a fancy word for "Crayon". lol I was so wrong. Their a year old unused, they didn't blend as easy as I thought it would be but thank you so much for this. It really helped. C:

I hope this helps! Just be carefull of old pastels... if they are old enough, they won't blend very well, like crayons. I had a set from when I was like 8 and they are pretty useless now.

Thanks :)

Don't worry they're not that old lol...about a year and a half maybe. Hopefully they'll still do the trick.
